Skiing / Snowboarding
New Zealand has 12 commercial ski fields in both the North and South Island. The country's largest is located on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu, Whakapapa ski field in the North Island. Mount Hutt in the central South Island boasts the longest ski season in New Zealand, and together with the fields around Queenstown and Wanaka, they offer some of the finest ski terrain in the world. Wanaka's Nordic ski area has over 20kms of groomed cross-country trails with heli-skiing options available. Most commercial fields have equipment hire, restaurant/cafes and ski schools.
Enjoying the reverse seasons, the Northern Hemisphere skiers recognise New Zealand as an international ski destination and find the variety and terrain spectacular.
